When you choose between a laptop and a desktop, you might think it is an easy thing to decide, but when you are into it, you will have a hard time indeed.
Before finally deciding what to buy, let us all consider various issues like what are listed below.
Mobility – one of the most crucial issues to consider when choosing between a laptop and desktop is its mobility. If you are one of those who need to work remotely, then buying for a laptop is the best decision to make. One must note though that a 3G card from any mobile phone provider has the ability to provide high-speed internet access in many of the urban places.
Storage – another issue to consider is the storage. Most of the time laptops offer a lower capacity than desktops. If you are the type that stores huge files, then choosing a desktop can be the right choice for you. Though laptops nowadays have larger disk storage space like 100GB, you will now also find desktops with larger disk storage space of 500GB. However, bigger drives can be hard as, the moment it crashed down, you will have bigger problem for it will take longer times to fix.
Graphics and Gaming – graphics is another important issue that one should consider when choosing between a laptop and a desktop. If you will be using your computer for business purposes, then graphics and gaming will never be an issue. However, with the high graphics requirement of windows vista today, graphics and gaming can be one of the issues that one should consider before buying. Although laptops nowadays have gone far far ahead when talking about graphics, but this can be about 50% with desktops have. In addition, one can easily upgrade for a higher graphics chips later when needed when using a desktop.
Upgrades – we all know that upgrading a laptop is harder than upgrading a desktop. Yes one can upgrade a laptop’s hard drive later, but you can never insert and additional hard drive like what we normally do with our desktop. Plugging in an external hard drive when needed can be more of a hassle than comfort. Majority of a laptop’s optical drives are upgradable and laptop repair is expensive compared to desktop repairs.
Peripherals – if you need those peripherals or accessories your desktop has like the keyboard, mouse and monitor, you can also plug-in those to your laptop when working in your office.
Price – when buying a computer the price is the number one issue that we normally consider. When considering a laptop, one will have to expect a price that ranges from $300 to $500. The price may vary depending on the specifications that you choose.
Generally, laptops and desktops nowadays perform almost the same, unless you will go for extra high-end desktop computers.
